TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Whether I am teaching a production or history/theory course, I strive to give students a strong foundation in the knowledge and use of creative tools, while allowing them space and flexibility to start creating their own work with these tools from the very first day of class. My goal in teaching is both to provide my students with the knowledge of relevant media and methods, and to present an engaged, critical yet comfortable classroom environment in which they can build their own ideas and develop their own voice. In my classes I encourage supportive interaction between students by scheduling a substantial amount of class time for student presentation of work in progress, as well as peer review and discussion of this work. Along with developing strong skills and their own unique style, it is important for students to learn the vocabulary necessary to talk constructively about their own work and others'.
